Addendum: Unity Township, PA- Loud Boom- January 1, 2024
I have continued to receive information concerning the loud boom that was heard and felt around the Unity Township, and Latrobe area on December 26, 2023. I have now heard from independent residents that someone was using Tannerite in the Unity Township area at the time that the boom was heard.
Tannerite is a brand of binary explosive targets that can be legally purchased and is sold in stores that sell ammo and firearms. It is used for firearms target practice. It can produce a very loud boom and a cloud of smoke once it is detonated. That explains the loud boom reports from that area.
Around the same time period however, residents from other locations miles away from Unity Township such as Delmont, Scottdale, Ligonier, and Blairsville also reported a very loud boom. There were also other similar reports from other counties and other states. It seems unlikely that the use of Tannerite in Unity Township would have been the source for these other reports.
I am aware that there was a possible meteor sighting from the Westmoreland county area also that same early evening. There was cloud cover over much of the area at the time. It is possible that a fireball meteor could have created a sonic boom that was heard over a widespread area. The cloud cover could have prevented many people from seeing a meteor. That is one possibility for those other reports.

Mystery Boom Shakes Southwestern Pennsylvania and Other Areas-December 26, 2023
From: Researcher Stan Gordon www.stangordon.info
The public reported hearing a loud boom over many locations in Southwestern sections of Pennsylvania as well as other locations. This occurrence took place at approximately 5: 30 PM. Some witnesses also reported feeling a vibration as well. I have been receiving information from various sources as well as from people who experienced this incident. I understand that there is also a lot of discussion about the incident on social media as well.
The loud boom and vibration were reported from such areas as Unity Township, the Latrobe area, Youngstown, and Blairsville. I have heard that there were reports from other areas of Westmoreland County and Allegheny County and as far away as Mercer County. I was also made aware of similar reports from West Virginia and Kentucky.
I expect that a lot more information and witness accounts will surface in the hours ahead. These mystery boom reports often have manmade or natural explanations.
It is possible that a sonic boom was created by a fireball meteor that passed over a large area at that time. Due to the cloudy conditions in many areas, it may have been difficult for observers to see the meteor.
