UPDATE: February 20, 2024-Since posting this article, I have learned of a possible explanation for the sightings. I am in the process of attempting to obtain confirmation on this. It has been difficult to contact anyone so far, but I hope to be able to speak with someone in the next few days who might have answers. I will provide an update when I learn more.
Mysterious Brillant UFO/UAP Observed Over Pennsylvania, Several States and Canada on February 14, 2024
From: Researcher Stan Gordon
On February 15, 2024, I received phone and email UFO/UAP reports from witnesses and other researchers concerning observations from the previous day and from across the country of a large bright object that moved slowly and emitted something that looked like a mist or vapor. The larger object appeared to be followed closely behind by a smaller similar object.
The first eyewitness report came from a family living in a rural area of Fayette County, Pennsylvania. I have conducted several interviews with them. The husband stated, “I know what I am relating sounds fantastic, but this is what occurred”. It was a cold evening, and the couple, who were stargazers, went outside to view the moon and the planet Jupiter in the clear sky. They noticed a commercial aircraft flying toward the west. About the same time, the husband noticed a very bright round object that suddenly appeared at an extremely high altitude far above the aircraft. The object was between Jupiter and the moon, and it was moving below Jupiter.
The object was moving slowly from west to east. It’s appearance was hazy or fuzzy, but increasingly became twice as bright as the star Sirius on a clear night. That object had a yellowish-white color to it. The man’s wife ran into the house to obtain an older pair of binoculars from the house and brought them outside. They also called their teenaged daughter to come out to look at the object.
While looking through the binoculars at the objects that were very high in the sky above the mountains, there appeared to be a second similar object that was smaller in size but not as bright connected to the larger object and following behind it. As the objects continued to move slowly, they noticed there was a “fuzzy-hazy foggy light” surrounding the objects. The family kept passing the binoculars back and forth to view them. The daughter said that the objects looked solid to her through the binoculars and seemed to have a shiny metal appearance. She went on to explain that it had a shape similar to the baton that a majorette might use in a parade. The objects were illuminated by both the moon and by the haze around them.
While under observation, the objects stopped at times. According to the witnesses, the incident became more unusual. What looked like six or more solid looking “giant hoses” or, as the wife described them, as “solid looking cylindrical tubes” that were illuminated in a yellow color, appeared from the bottom of the object, and stretched down from the sky for several hundred feet or more. Then from the bottom of the tubes, what looked like a huge upside-down mushroom shaped area of a blue haze or gas was emitted that appeared to drop to the ground in the distance.
When the objects moved forward slightly and stopped, and then moved forward for the second time, they saw the blue haze released again. The husband went to pull up his car when his wife and daughter saw the object stop, and for a third time release the mist. They all jumped into their vehicle and started driving toward the direction of the mountains where this haze seemed to be covering the grounds’ surface. The family was genuinely concerned about what the gas or haze was and what the objects were that were emitting it. The daughter kept watching the objects and the haze from the vehicle and watched as everything just suddenly vanished from sight.
The husband told me that the two objects in formation were exceptionally large. He explained to me that if you took a fully opened dollar bill and held it out toward the sky, it might not have covered the size of the object formation or the mushroom shaped area of blue haze. Neither odor was detected, nor was any unusual sound heard during the observation. The witnesses estimated that they watched this unusual activity for about five minutes. The sighting itself had taken place around 7:20 to 7:30 PM.
The family was so mesmerized at what they were seeing that they didn’t think of taking any pictures until after the incident. As soon as the observation was over, the father and daughter went into separate rooms and drew what they saw to compare notes. The family was shaken by what had taken place.
Could the lenses in the older binoculars have caused some distortion of what they were viewing at that time? It’s possible. However, I was told that they saw the cylindrical tubes both with and without the binoculars during the observation. It is my understanding that these are the only witnesses who I was in contact with who used binoculars to watch the objects that evening.
It was soon after I had concluded that interview that an email arrived from researcher Kevin Paul in Greene County, Pennsylvania. He made me aware that there was a lot of chatter on social media about a UFO/UAP sighting in the area, and also from Virginia and West Virginia. The object involved reportedly emitted some type of cloud or vapor.
I had also learned that something fuzzy that looked like a whitish triangle or funnel shape with distinct edges was observed in the eastern part of Pennsylvania at about the same time as the other reports.
Ron Lanham of the research team Wild & Weird West Virginia also received similar sighting reports from various locations.
As the day went on, more reports were coming to my attention. A witness from Greene County (not far from the Washington County line) called to tell me that she was walking her dog when she also saw an object that evening and called her husband outside to view it. The white luminous somewhat spherical object was moving slowly toward the east, when suddenly the object became much brighter. It then seemed to stop and then emitted a mist that covered the area around the object. The object was observed for about five minutes. The witness was able to record some video of the object. The sighting occurred during the time period that was similar to the other reports around 7:20 to 7:30 PM EST.
During the next few days, more reports were coming in describing remarkably similar observations from other states such as Ohio, Maine, and Michigan. Lon Strickler of the Phantoms & Monsters website received information on similar sightings in Ontario, Canada. For information on the sighting, please see the report posted on this link to his website. https://www.phantomsandmonsters.com/2024/02/anomalous-ufohaze-observed-by-dog.html
I received a report from Wayne County in Michigan. The witness had observed a glowing object that looked blurry and was being followed by a smaller object. The objects seemed to slow down, and the larger object emitted a half-moon shaped mist that looked yellowish green.
I also received a phone report and had an interesting conversation with a very experienced amateur astronomer from southern Maine who also saw the strange activity in the sky that evening. What he observed left him baffled. The following information is per the witness from the statement I received from him:
He had just finished eating dinner and went outside to his recycling bin. As he often did, he looked up into the sky that evening that was crystal clear with little to no wind. He was looking at Jupiter near the moon. It was then that he noticed an odd fuzzy path of light traveling from west to east almost overhead and approximately 70 degrees from the horizon. As the object traveled closer, it suddenly became a bright point of light, outshining the brightest objects in the night sky, save for the moon itself, and possibly Jupiter.
With this increase in luminosity, almost simultaneously the object began to emit an almost wave like light, which had a bow shape and was increasing in size until it became almost the size of a dollar bill if you held it against the sky with arm outstretched. It appeared that the object was traveling in tandem with this bow shape and in the same direction that this wake was moving.
At that time the object was in the vicinity of the Orion Nebula and as you will find in the photo, two stars that comprise of the constellation are within the field of view of the photo. The occurrence left the witness quite perplexed and also concerned about what he was seeing. He also said that at the time that it was blurry, it was as though the object did not want to be seen.
His location was in southern Maine and judging by his location, he said once the object left the coastline, it simply blinked out of existence. Bright point of light and its effect that it also created. He mentioned that in his photograph, there appears to be something peculiar about it as you zoom in, with an almost rectangle/obelisk shaped dark area near the light.
His description of the strange object was similar to the other sightings that were being reported from far distant locations. It seems likely that the number of sightings of objects seen that night over a wide area were due to the extremely high altitude and size of the anomaly as well as the duration of the observation.
When I began to hear the reports, my first thought was that there could be answers for the observations associated with some space activity launches also scheduled the same day from Cape Canaveral and Vandenburg Air Force Base. There were no launches scheduled from Wallops Island on that day. In past years, some space research experiments from Wallops Island were the source for some UFO sightings, especially in Pennsylvania.
It is possible that some UFO/UAP sightings that reportedly occurred in some states could be associated with launches closer to where the observations took place as mentioned above. We have not seen any correlation with the launch activity on February 14, 2024, in cases mentioned in the article. The observations discussed were apparently not Starlink satellites or meteors.
At this time, what was reported remains a mystery. We are still looking for answers.
