Two UFOs Over Greensburg, Pennsylvania? No It’s Venus and Jupiter.

Those two bright objects that you are seeing in the clear western sky might look strange but they are explainable. You are seeing a conjunction of the planets Venus and Jupiter. They appear to be very close, yet are many miles apart.

50th Anniversary of Kecksburg, PA UFO Incident to be Celebrated at UFO Festival Conference

Late on the afternoon of December 9, 1965, a mysterious object fell from the sky into a wooded area near the community of Kecksburg  in Westmoreland County, PA. Hundreds of people, including reporters, descended on that rural community that evening trying to catch a glimpse of what had crash-landed into the woods. What was down in the woods that caused the military to quickly respond to that location and keep civilians away from the impact site? Fifty years later, the mystery of the Kecksburg UFO remains.

The upcoming anniversary of this Pennsylvania UFO case which has received worldwide attention will be celebrated during the annual Kecksburg VFD UFO Festival Conference that is being held on Sunday, July 26, 2015, at 1:30 PM. The UFO Conference will feature a special event focusing on the 50th Anniversary of the UFO incident. This will include a reunion of some Kecksburg witnesses with a discussion of their experiences and Q&A session. Stan Gordon will present an illustrated lecture discussing his fifty years of investigation of the case. He will also show excerpts from his award winning video documentary, “Kecksburg: The Untold Story” focusing on interviews with area witnesses. Stan will also give an update on more recent UFO, Bigfoot, and strange encounters reported from around the area.

The Kecksburg UFO Festival will take place July 24-26, 2015, and is a free family fun event. On Friday the hours are 6-11 PM. It is half price night on food in the kitchen. On Saturday the hours are 12-11 PM. The parade starts at 2 PM with awards for the best UFO costume and UFO float. There will be ongoing events such as their famous Bed Race and “Smoke in the Valley Burn Out” as well as children’s activities. Fireworks will light up the sky at 10 PM. On Sunday the hours are 10AM-5 PM. Be sure to attend the “UFO Hot Dog Eating Competition” at 1 PM just before the UFO Conference. There will also be entertainment, an inside and outside craft show, food venders, and ongoing events all weekend long.

Multiple Lights in the sky over Smithfield, PA-June 27, 2015

Multiple Lights in the sky over Smithfield, PA-June 27, 2015

With the approach of the 4th of July, we can expect an increase in reports of one or multiple bright objects moving across the sky. They are generally described as bright orange or reddish-orange lights. The lights can however be of many other colors as well. They make no sound, move with the wind patterns, then suddenly vanish when the fuel source is expended. These objects are better known as Chinese Lanterns or Sky Lanterns.

They are sold in stores as kits to launch and some individuals have built similar devices out of household materials. In past years I have received s surge of such observations around holidays and special events. That does not mean however, that all reports of luminous objects in the sky can be explained as these type of aerial devices. I have also stressed my concerns in past years that these sky lanterns could be a navigational hazard as well as a fire hazard in areas experiencing drought conditions.

The following report submitted by research Jim Brown is an example of the kind of reports we might expect as we get closer to the holiday weekend.

Type of Sighting: Numerous lights in the sky (8 to 10)

Date: June 27, 2015

Location – Smithfield, Pa.

Time – 23:05 hrs.  Duration: 5 min.

Weather Conditions:  100% cloud cover at 2000 feet.  Wind out of the SSW at

10 mph.  Ground conditions clear.  Rained about 5 hours previous.

Description of Sighting:  The first sighting was of 2 white lights coming over the horizon ( 5 degree elevation) to the south.  These were an off white, slight yellow or gold tint.  No aircraft lights (red or green) visible. I observed them as they gained elevation.  Three more came into view trailing the first two. By now the first ones were at about 45 degree elevation to my east.  While watching the three at some point the first two disappeared.  I attempted to photograph them but the distance prevented anything aside from showing just the gold-white light.  There was no sound associated with any object.

The next three climbed to about 60 degree elevation to my north east then faded one by one.  By now two more were visible to the south.  Rather than to attempt photography I pointed my astronomical telescope toward them for a detailed look. (8 inch Schmidt-Cassegrain, Meade, 25 mm lens)  It was difficult to track them but I was able to get a good look at one of the objects.

At that point I could see a single point of light below what appeared to be a dome shaped envelope.  Four supporting struts were also visible holding what appeared to be a single light in the center.  From this I could determine the object was a Chinese Lantern type device.  This fits with the direction of travel as they were following the prevailing winds.  Additional objects appeared and followed the same pattern as the earlier ones.

At this point I was satisfied with what they were, Chinese Lanterns.  To date I am unable to determine where they were launched from, but based on direction and apparent altitude I am speculating somewhere between Smithfield and the Gans area.  There were no public fireworks or similar shows in the area at the time, however they could have been launched by a private party.

One curious observation was that each appeared to fade at the same approximate point in the sky, north-east of my observation point. The clouds were at approximately 2000 feet and 100% cover.  It is possible they entered a lower cloud bank however localized details regarding these conditions could not be determined.  It would be unusual for all of these lanterns to burn out at the same time with respect to their launch, however without knowing precisely where the point of origin was an exact burn time can’t be established.

UFO Activity Reported Saturday Evening in Pennsylvania-May 30, 2015

UFO Activity Reported Saturday Evening in Pennsylvania-May 30, 2015

Witnesses near Monessen, PA reported seeing a series of odd lights in the sky at about 10:45 PM on May 30, 2015. A total of six bright orange lights were observed moving from the direction of North Charleroi and moving towards Monessen and the area of the Monongahela River. The lights were seen moving one after the other and seemed to be about a ½ mile apart as they crossed the sky. The bright objects made no sound while being observed.

At about 11 PM, two observers outside of Mount Pleasant observed something unusual  high in altitude in the night sky.  They first saw a bright white light moving fast across the sky. From the object they saw what was described as red-orange laser light beams that extended out across the sky.  A short time later the light beams went out. At the end sections of where the beams had been, they saw a white blinking light appear for a short time.

The blinking lights then began to shoot across the sky in various directions. The main white object moved toward a cloud and blinked out and was gone. Then moments later, a second bright white light approached from the opposite direction. It was at a much higher altitude than the first light. As the fellows watched, the same odd light activity began to take place as had occurred with the first object. Total observation time was about 2 minutes.

If you saw anything that evening please contact me.

Huge Flying Box Observed in Pennsylvania Over The Allegheny River-April 21, 2015

Huge Flying Box Observed in Pennsylvania Over The Allegheny River-April 21, 2015

Two people traveling in their vehicle observed something very strange on the morning of April 21, 2015. The couple was traveling between Parker and East Brady around 10:30 or 11 AM, when they saw a flash of light in the sky. The viewing conditions were partly cloudy, with some dark thick clouds scattered about in many parts of the sky. The flash was apparently the sun reflecting for a moment off the surface of a very large solid object.  The couple pulled their car over to take a better look. The strange flying thing appeared to be in the distance over the Allegheny River.

The object was positioned near a large dark cloud and was described as similar to a” flying box”. The rectangular object looked solid black and seemed to have 4 rows of windows or indentations on its surface. One witness said the object was huge and he estimated that it was 7500-10,000 feet in altitude.

As the couple watched, the small building sized craft slowly moved inside a large dark cloud. The man in the car grabbed a camera and had it focused to take a picture of the object when it exited the cloud that it had entered. They waited 45 minutes but the object was never seen again. They couldn’t understand how something that large could have been lost from sight.
